Art with a Story

To begin I used charcoal to create a gestural image on the canvas. Then, I applied an under-painting using thin amounts of paint. These first two stages are very expressive and loose. The second stage is mostly alla prima, where I developed the image to a higher degree of realism.

I am interested in the causes of fear in the painting "Skandalon." The word 'Skandalon' originally refereed to a snare or stumbling block to catch small animals. Events in our life can make us loose sight of our identity and in turn create fear.

This piece is signed. Masonite panel is mounted on a 3 inch deep black, wooden frame. The frame is flush with the Masonite.
